It is wonderful driving through the green tea covered hills and valleys, reminiscent of a Noel Barbour novel about plantations in Ceylon, or rather Sri Lanka.
Before descending from the plateau, the landscape changes dramatically with deep gorges filled with lush vegetation and towering waterfalls, and a sharp descent through the Mqaba Forest teeming with fauna and flora waiting to be discovered. Mbotyi River Lodge is at the end of the road and offers the beginning of a new and wonderful adventure.

In keeping with the farm theme, various animals, ducks and birds roam the gardens and you might be awakened by the crowing of roosters at sunrise. The house and adjoining separate flat are set in spacious landscaped gardens, close to Silver Lakes, shopping malls and en route to the quaint towns of Cullinan, Dullstroom and the Mpumalanga Province.

Decorated in an eclectic style which combines elements of local, African and European furnishings, five rooms are individually and tastefully decorated with cotton sheets, down duvets and floppy pillows, soft white towels, air-conditioning and DStv. There is a fully-equipped kitchen where meals are prepared, and self-catering is encouraged. A large fridge and separate wash-up area are used for dishes and laundry. Weekly cleaning and laundry is included in the price.
